Morganite is a variety of beryl and comes in a peachy-pink color. This beautiful gemstone belongs to the same mineral group as the more well known emerald and aquamarine. Morganite’s feminine and delicate colors are the result of manganese.
Morganite occurs with excellent transparency, and unlike emerald, it is rarely formed with inclusions. As such, eye clean stones are expected. Due to its luster and clarity, morganite gemstones exhibit beautiful brilliance. Morganite is also durable (7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale).
There are morganite deposits in Brazil, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, China, Russia and the USA in California and Maine. However, quality morganite gemstones are relatively rare and are prized by gem collectors around the world.
